Our Goats

**NOW ACCEPTING RESERVATIONS AND WAITLIST SPOTS FOR 2023 KIDS**

We can’t keep every kid born on Sweet Briar Farm, but work very hard to find each one a good loving home.  If you think your barn might be the right place for a Sweet Briar kid please checkout our goats below and contact us if you’d like to be added to our waitlist or reserve a kid from a specific breeding.

Our goats have quickly become the heart of our tiny farm, and we treat them accordingly.  Our goal is to produce happy, healthy goats, with the production ability to earn long comfortable lives on any farm.  Our Nubians, Mini Nubians, and Nigerian Dwarves are all registered (ADGA or MDGA) and bred with conformation and milk production in mind.  We plan to begin milk testing our does in 2023. Our Myotonics (Fainters) are bred to be small to mid-sized goats with excellent temperaments and low-maintainance coats, all MGR registered.  All our goats have tested negative for CAE, Johne’s, and CL annually, and come from other farms who can boast the same biosecurity.  Have questions about testing and why it matters?   You can watch me explain it here.

Maylee’s mini goats Starla

Starla is a first generation Mini Nubian goat; her mother, The Jets Pamela Halpbert, is an ADGA American Nubian and her father, Willy, is an MDGA purebred mini Nubian. Starla’s great great grandfather was placed ninth on the Elite list of the ADGA in 2018 his name is Kastdemur’s Most Wanted. Pam, Starla’s mom, also has multiple Buck Star and Milk Star ancestors in her pedigree.  These are evidence of her genetic pre-disposition to excellent milk production.  Starla is registered in the MDGA unlike most of our other goats. Starla was entered in the MDGA 2021 Fall Virtual Show and placed 7th out of 14 Intermediate Doelings. Both judges commented positively on Starla’s dairy strength and length of body.  Starla is the sole member of our 10-year old Maylee’s MDGA herd “Maylee’s Mini-Goats”.  Starla is bred to Udderly Precious Mighty Mack, an F7 purebred Mini-Nubian with blue eyes and moonspots.  Starla is due to kid in late March 2023.  If you’d like reserve a kid or be put on our waitlist please contact us here.

Udderly Precious Mighty Mack

Mighty Mack joined our herd in mid 2022, we brought him here specifically with Starla in mind.  Mighty Mack is a purebred MDGA registered mini Nubian.  Mack is heavily moonspotted and has stunning blue eyes.  Mack is the first full grown mature buck we’ve had on our farm and we were all very pleased with his gentle disposition and good manners on a halter.  An excellent temperament is a valuable trait for a sire to pass on to his kids.

“Hi Mom!”

Moonbei Fawn

Fawn is a 2021 ADGA Purebred Nubian with a pedigree as impressive as her disposition.  Both of her grandsires have earned their *B and her ancestors hail from well respected herds including Hoanbu, Ain-Ash-Shams, Quarter Mile, as well as her namesake Moonbei.  All this is evidence of Fawn’s excellent milk producing DNA, which she will pass on to her own kids.  As a first freshener in 2022 I was impressed with both Fawn’s capacity and teat size/openings.  She hand milks like a dream! Fawn is a healthy, hardy doe with an excellent growth rate and noteworthy escutcheon width.  Fawn has been bred to THE JIMOTHY, we expect her to kid in late March.  This is her second freshening we have our fingers crossed for at least two!  Please contact us if you want to reserve a kid from this pairing or be put on our waitlist for a kid this year.

MI Sweet Briar REese’s Pieces

Reese Pieces is a homegrown retained doeling, Fawn’s 2022 doeling.  Just like her momma Reese is a stunning and confident doe.  All our Nubians are big lovers and Reese is no exception!  Reese’s sire Hooligans FAC Aries is a 6M Galaxy buck with ancestors on the Elite List and an incredible milking background.  It’s too soon to say for sure, but Reese may carry the genetics for moonspots.  I’m keeping my fingers crossed!  Reese will be bred to Hooligans FAC Dutton for late June 2023 kids.  Please contact us if you want to reserve a kid from this pairing or be put on our waitlist for a kid this year.

Land of havilah te nelly

Nelly is our biggest lover! This ADGA Purebred Nubian gives neck hugs and follows me around while I feed our pigs.  She is very dairy, meaning she is long and lean with a finer bone structure.  In addition to being a sweetheart she comes from a seriously impressive breeding program at Land of Havilah.  When Nelly earns her milk star she will be 5*M doe, we also expect that she’ll earn her Superior Genetics (SG) title just like her dam and all 4 of her grandparents.  SG is a title given to goats in the top 15% of their breed for milk production and conformation.  Nelly’s dam, SG Land of Havilah KA Ebony 4*M earned bronze, gold, and silver certificates from the International Nubian Breeders Association for producing 2,790 lbs of milk, 145 lbs of butterfat, and 105 lbs of protein during her 2021 lactation. Checkout Nelly’s pedigree here.  Nelly freshened for the first time July of 2022 and blew us away with her amazing udder attachments.  Just like Fawn she was a pleasure to hand milk.  Nelly was bred to HOOLIGANS FAC Dutton for late March kids. Please contact us if you want to reserve a kid from this pairing or be put on our waitlist for a kid this year. These will be some stellar kids!

Hooligans FAC Laramie

Laramie is an affectionate doeling who promises to be an excellent milking addition to our herd. We are so excited to see how she does as a first freshener in the summer of 2023.

According to Hooglian’s, Laramie’s sire “My-Enchanted-Acres-LM-Hendrix is the genetic full bother to ELITE, Top 10 buck *B SG My-Enchanted-Acres LM Candyman. Candyman has made quite a name for himself in the Nubian dairy goat world not only in the show ring but also in the milking parlor. Hendrix is long bodied, showing lots of width throughout, especially in the loin with correct feet and legs. Full brother Candyman has progeny only two years old and is #2 on the 2019 ADGA August ELITE list and was sire of the both the 1st place Junior and Senior Gets-of Sire at the 2019 ADGA National Show.  Candyman’s daughters are tremendously dairy with beautiful rump and hind end structure, as well as an amazing will to milk. His two year old daughter Avina has been undefeated in her age as a two year old including being first place at the National Show.”

Hooligans FAC Dutton

Dutton is a Purebred Nubian junior buck, whom we were very fortunate to purchase from Hooligans Farm and Creamery. According to Hooglian’s, Dutton’s sire “My-Enchanted-Acres-LM-Hendrix is the genetic full bother to ELITE, Top 10 buck *B SG My-Enchanted-Acres LM Candyman. Candyman has made quite a name for himself in the Nubian dairy goat world not only in the show ring but also in the milking parlor. Dutton’s dam Hoanbu KC Guiding Light also comes from demonstrated lines of excellent milk production and conformation.

We are so excited and grateful to bring Dutton and his nationally recognized genetics into our herd!  Dutton was bred to Nelly and Reese Piece’s.  Please contact us if you want to reserve a kid from this pairing or be put on our waitlist for a kid this year. Hi mom.
Hendrix (Sire)
Dam

The (Moonbei) Jimothy

Jimmy is a farm favorite around here.  We’ve enjoyed his smile from the time we brought him home as a 4-day old bottle baby.  There was an error as the ADGA processed his papers and his herd name, Moonbei, was left off.  Regardless, Jimmy is shaping up to be an excellent herd sire.  He is friendly but respectful with people.  Dominant but not aggressive with other goats.  He is quickly growing into a wide and muscular buck.  I expect his offspring to be excellent dual-purpose goats.

**Notice his paternal grand dam is a 17*M and his paternal grandsire has earned his Superior Genetics Distinction.

“Broseph”-Pavi Acres Apaches Standinbear

Broseph here is a very special goat; he is funny, ADORABLE, and he has amazing genetics! Broseph comes from a line of DNA tested (*DNA*) amazing milkers. His ancestors on both dam and sire’s sides have demonstrated amazing milk production and overall quality with Milkstars (*M) and ++Buckstars (++*B), and Champion and Grand Champion accolades throughout his lines.  Broseph is bred to Phylis, Holly, and Kacey. Please  contact us to reserve a kid from one of these pairings or be added to our waitlist.

“Holly” - Serenity farm b polka

Holly is an dual registered purebred Nigerian Dwarf doe. She is registered with both the ADGA and the MDGA. Holly was a bottle baby and she sure loves her humans.  This charismatic tiny doe brings with her bloodlines from Kyeema Ridge and Zanzabees in addition to her namesake Serenity Farm.  Given the performance of her parents, we have high hopes for Holly earning her own *M for excellent milk production in the future. Holly is bred to Broseph for late March kids.  Contact us  to reserve a kid from these two amazing goats or to be added to the waitlist for the kids on our farm.

MI Sweet Briar Appaula

Appaula is Phyliss’s daughter, she is one of  triplets. She was born little and tiny but as you can see she is nice and round now. She has beautiful gray moonspots, and the most adorable face, her personality is so much fun this little goat is the happiest and greatest escape artist I could go on and on with funny stories of how this little girl has escaped. We are hoping to breed Appaula with Broseph in May 2023 for December kids.

Warriner’s Farm Plark W. Griswold

Plark is a MGR registered Tennessee/Texas Myotonic (fainting) buck.  Plark gets his name from Christmas Vacation’s Clark Griswold, we called him Clark but then Bruin started to call him ‘Plark’, the name caught. Little Plark has blue eyes and he is a high level fainter. We are breeding him to Ellen, Ruby Sue, and Karen. Please contact us if you’d like to reserve a kid from this pairing or if you want to be added to our waitlist.

“HI”

Greenman Fainters Karen filapelli

Karen is an MGR registered Tennessee/Texas Myotonic (fainting) doe.  Fainters are known for being very hardy and parasite resistant, a reputation which Karen is certainly living up to.  Karen was our very first kid we brought to the farm and is incredibly affectionate with her humans.  While she has fainted, we are apparently no longer startling enough for her to stiffen frequently. We bred Karen to Plark for mid June kids these kids would make excellent pets or 4H projects.  Please contact us if you’d like to reserve a kid from this pairing or if you want to be added to our waitlist.
